Pine Ridge Reservation in Need of YOUR Help

I recieved the following prayer request and feel a deep call to pass it on to YOU. For those following and earth based path and those that realize the land we live on is from the true Native People, please read the following and give if at all possiable. These are dear people we know and work with, they also help others selflessly, but life and death is in our hands. We are all ONE people.

Siz'l Moon Song requests our help on behalf of the people:

Dear Ones,

I received this cry for help as my work with elders takes on many forms, and felt the need to pass it on to you my fellow dancers, with a heartfelt belief we can make a difference to these native folks in desperate need of food, blankets, money etc ... Please read, pray, and do what you can, and notify others you think might be help in this crisis.

''Emergency Winter Heating/Utility Assistance Program for the Elders, Disabled, and Seriously Ill.''

Winter in South Dakota started early Autumn 2008 and has been exceptionally brutal with days and nights already breaking many records for below 0*F temperatures and reported wind chill factors defying comprehension at -72*F. On the Pine Ridge Oglala Sioux Reservation, this has set even the most solid of reservation organizations scrambling for heating fuel. Add to the problem a 33% increase in propane costs this year and it has become a very tenuous situation.

Sadly, like everywhere, it's always the elders and sick who are the most at risk. Still there are many qualified elders and disabled from the Reservation on a waiting list for assistance.

Bitter cold temperatures and snow still persist and are expected to continue well into March 2009. But with the early onset of winter and the blizzards and extended frigid temperatures creating extreme need, funding is low or depleted at this point for most of them. The ultimate goal will be the programs provided which will continue to keep people alive and warm, one family at a time. FEMA is not helping.
